Cosmetic products testing
Cosmetic products testing
Testing of cosmetic products is carried out in order to ensure compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, and it includes, among other things, testing of stability, physical and chemical characteristics, testing of prohibited or restricted substances, impurities, microbiological quality, etc.
Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products states that, before placing the cosmetic product on the market, the responsible person (manufacturer, importer and in some cases distributor) must report each cosmetic product to the European Commission as well as create, keep and make available on request a Product Information File (PIF).
A Cosmetic Product Safety Assessment (which is an integral part of the Product Information File) must also be carried out by an experienced safety assessor to identify any potential problems with the cosmetic product, taking into account the foreseeable use and the information provided in the Product Information File (PIF).
Reliable testing of cosmetic raw materials, formulations and products is key to proving compliance, while ensuring the safety of any cosmetic product.
